Making it Real - Investment That Pays in Many Ways
Live Your Values.jpg

Living your values means aligning your daily actions, decisions, and behaviors with your core principles and beliefs - essentially walking the talk. Let me break this down:

It starts with clearly understanding what matters most to you. These could be principles like honesty, compassion, environmental stewardship, family, personal growth, or social justice. But identifying values is just the beginning.

The real work comes in actively translating those values into concrete choices and actions. For instance, if someone values environmental sustainability, living that value might mean choosing public transit over driving, reducing meat consumption, or carefully considering the environmental impact of purchases. If someone prioritizes family, it could mean setting boundaries at work to protect family time or making career decisions that allow for more presence with loved ones.

This alignment often requires trade-offs and difficult decisions. You might need to turn down a higher-paying job that conflicts with your ethics, speak up against injustice even when it's uncomfortable, or invest time in causes you believe in rather than more immediately rewarding activities.

What makes living your values particularly challenging is that it's not a one-time choice - it's an ongoing practice of making countless small decisions that add up to a life that reflects what you truly believe in. It requires regular self-reflection to check if your actions match your stated values and the courage to make changes when you notice misalignment.

Earth Day reminds us that protecting our environment requires more than annual celebrations - it calls for consistent, thoughtful choices in our daily lives. Just as love of country shows itself best through ongoing civic engagement and community service, environmental commitment reveals itself in the small decisions we make throughout the year.

Life is a set of hard choices, and one's choices in action represent what one stands for.

What values do you find most important to live by in your own life?

Why ResEPA?

My journey toward living my values took a decisive turn when I left my role as a Director of Organizational Transformation in Microsoft Consulting Services. When the focus shifted from true customer centricity to sales-driven "trusted advisor" relationships to customers when I was billing sdeveral hundreds of dollars per hour (talk about cognitive dissonance), I knew it was time to align my work more directly with purpose.

As my wife wisely calls it, I entered a "Conscious Clearing" phase of life. I found deep fulfillment in supporting organizations that work with intention and purpose, even against prevailing headwinds. My engagement spans environmental initiatives, historic preservation of a 1908 church founded by former slaves, evolving the conversation around diversity to focus on meaningful collaboration, mentoring youth, addressing food insecurity, and advancing health equity.

A valued mentor observed how these pursuits had filled my calendar and suggested I view this work through the lens of my management consulting background. This perspective helped me embrace my new role as an Impact Consultant and Social Entrepreneur.

The ResEPA Platform represents my most ambitious choice in this journey. Drawing from my decade-long experience in home energy transformation – including solar power, high-efficiency HVAC systems, and smart appliances – I recognized a critical gap in the renewable energy marketplace. While my own home now generates substantial power (admittedly supporting my audiophile habits and comfort amenities), the path to this achievement revealed systemic challenges in the residential renewable energy sector.

Despite following all recommended procedures – energy audits, approved vendor lists, and more – I encountered contractors more focused on sales than solutions. This experience revealed the need for an unbiased, consumer-centric approach to renewable energy adoption.

ResEPA addresses this need by creating a space for genuine consumer-to-consumer knowledge sharing. Unlike traditional platforms driven by contractor leads and supplier relationships, we focus on empowering homeowners with an "Asset Life Cycle" methodology. This approach helps create an intentional journey toward value realization, ensuring investments meet or exceed expectations.

My personal journey continues as I work toward taking my home completely off-grid and achieving a zero carbon footprint. I'll be sharing this ongoing experience through the platform, much as I share my broader commitment to sustainable living – balancing adventure (yes, I have an overlanding-equipped truck) with conscious choices (like the four Priuses in our family "fleet").

Perhaps my greatest satisfaction comes from my sons' expressed pride in these energy-conscious decisions. Their response reinforces that living our values creates ripples far beyond our immediate actions.

We're excited to launch Phase One of this platform and invite you to join us in building a community dedicated to informed, intentional renewable energy adoption. Together, we can make sustainable living more accessible and achievable for everyone.

(2) Investment, project oversight, and facility management support and knowledge sharing without having to depend on representations of salespersons, contractors, solution integrators and service providers.

(3) There needs to be focus on the economics and financial benefits of renewable energy solutions.

(4) Need to focus on investment value versus traditional investments, for example in the stock market.

(5) Simplified checklists and tools to support, provide context, and make sense the process.

What are the key needs to facilitate the making of knowledgeable decisions and mitigate risks:
